How to copy a Pinterest Pin link

Updated on October 18, 2026

To download a video, an image or a GIF, the site needs the link to that Pin. The link to the board it’s on won’t work, and neither will the profile of the person who saved it. The quickest way is to open the Pin in the Pinterest app and use the Share button, which has a Copy link option.

On your phone: iPhone or Android

  1. Open the Pin. Tap the Pin you want until it opens on its own screen, with the large image or the video playing. The link only comes out right with the Pin open. In the feed or board grid, you’re not on the Pin yet.
  2. Tap Share. It’s the send icon, in the row of buttons near the Save button. On some devices, it’s inside the three-dot menu.
  3. Tap Copy link. It’s in the panel that opens, next to the apps you can share to. The app shows a quick message that the link was copied.
  4. Go back to the site and tap Paste. The search starts on its own. The first time, your phone may ask for permission to paste: tap Allow or Paste.

The app copies a short link that starts with pin.it. It works as it is: there’s no need to open it first.

If your browser won’t let the site read what you copied, press and hold the link field and choose Paste from the menu. Then tap Download.

On a computer

On pinterest.com, click the Pin to open it: the address in the browser bar becomes the Pin’s, with /pin/ and its number. Copy it with Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac. The site’s share button also has Copy link.

Then paste it in the field with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V) and click Download.

What the link looks likeWhat it is
pin.it/ and a codeThe short link the app copies. Works.
pinterest.com/pin/ and a numberA Pin. Works.
A regional address, like uk.pinterest.com/pin/ and a numberA Pin. Works.
pinterest.com/profile-name/board-name/A board. Doesn’t work: open a Pin before copying.
pinterest.com/profile-name/A profile. Doesn’t work.
pinterest.com/search/A search. Doesn’t work.

Anything Pinterest adds at the end, after the question mark, is fine. And if the link came with some text, there’s no need to delete anything: the site finds the link in the text.

When it still doesn’t work

  • The screen says the link doesn’t point to a Pin. You copied a board, a profile or a search. Go back to Pinterest, open the Pin and copy its link.
  • The screen says it’s still the same link. Your phone still has the old link copied. Copy again, from the right Pin.
  • The screen says there’s no link copied. Copy link didn’t go through, or you copied something else. Repeat step 3 and wait for the message that the link was copied.
  • The screen says the Pin wasn’t found. The Pin was deleted, is on a secret board or belongs to a private account. If the pin.it link is old, the Pin may be gone: open the link in your browser to check.
  • The Pin plays a YouTube or Vimeo video. The file lives on that site, not on Pinterest, so it can’t be downloaded here.

With the right link in the field, the Your files list shows a button for each file. The next steps are on the Pinterest video downloader page, and the details for each type on the Pinterest image downloader and Pinterest GIF downloader pages.
