Pinterest GIF downloader

Paste the link to an animated Pin and save the original .gif file, just as Pinterest keeps it. Free, no sign-up.

Free, no sign-up, and no copy kept on our server.

How to download a Pinterest GIF in 3 steps

  1. Copy the animated Pin link

In Pinterest, open the GIF, tap Share, then Copy link.

  2. Tap Paste

The search starts on its own.

  3. Download the GIF

Tap Download GIF. Its size and format show under the button.

Pinterest GIFs show a small GIF label in the feed and start moving when you open the Pin. The short pin.it link the app copies works as it is.

The original .gif file, still animated

The list gives you the actual .gif file Pinterest keeps for the Pin, with every frame, no conversion and no recompression. In our October 2026 tests, GIFs uploaded straight to Pinterest and GIFs saved from Tumblr and Instagram all came as animated .gif files, at their original size.

That matters when you use it. A screenshot or a screen recording captures the animation at screen quality, with the app’s bars and buttons. The original file animates on its own in chats, emails, slides and on your phone.

GIF, image or video

Any Pin link works on any page: the list shows the right file for that kind of Pin.

Where the file goes

Each device saves it in a different place. On iPhone, the file goes to the Files app, not to Photos.

Using the GIF on your phone

On iPhone, GIFs downloaded in Safari go to the Files app, in Downloads, and animate when you open them. To add one to Photos, tap Share, then Save Image. In Photos, GIFs are in the Animated album, under Media Types. In the main grid, a GIF may look still until you tap it.

On Android, Chrome saves to the Download folder. Some galleries show the GIF still in the grid and only animate it when opened; Google Photos and the browser show the animation.

To send it in a chat, attach the file from your gallery, like a photo. WhatsApp, Telegram and most email apps accept .gif files. In PowerPoint and Google Slides, insert the GIF as an image: it animates during the presentation.

When the GIF won’t download

  • Deleted Pin, secret board or private account. The screen says the Pin wasn’t found.
  • Board or profile link. The address leads to many Pins. Open the GIF before copying the link. See how to copy a Pin link.
  • Pin showing a video from another site. When the animation is a YouTube or Vimeo video, the file lives on that site, not on Pinterest.
  • Expired links. Links last about 15 minutes. Tap Get new links.

Rights over the GIF

GIFs have owners too. Sending one in a chat with friends is personal use. To use it in a post, on a website or in a brand’s materials, ask the creator for permission and give credit. Anyone with rights over a GIF can ask us to block the Pin or the whole profile on the removal page. We reply within 2 business days.

Frequently asked questions

Will the downloaded GIF still be animated?

Yes. You get the .gif file Pinterest keeps, with every frame. If it looks frozen, the app is only showing the first frame: open it in your browser or in Google Photos.

Does the GIF lose quality?

No. The file comes as Pinterest stores it, with no recompression, conversion or resizing.

Does it work with GIFs saved from other sites?

It works when the animation is stored on Pinterest itself, which is the case for most GIFs saved from other sites, like Tumblr. If the Pin only plays a YouTube or Vimeo video, it won’t download.

Does a GIF have sound?

No. GIFs have no audio. If an animated Pin has sound, it’s a video: the Pinterest video downloader gives you the MP4 with sound.

How do I send the GIF on WhatsApp?

Download the GIF, open the chat and attach the file from your gallery, like a photo. On iPhone, add the GIF to Photos first, with Share and Save Image.

On iPhone, where does the GIF go?

To the Files app, in Downloads. Once you save it to Photos, it also shows up in the Animated album, under Media Types.

Do I need a Pinterest account?

No. The tool only reads the Pin’s public page. Secret boards and private accounts are out.

Can I use someone else's GIF?

Sending it in a chat is one thing. To use it in a post, on a website or in a brand’s materials, ask the creator for permission. GIFs made from movie and TV clips also involve other people’s rights.
