How to send a Pinterest GIF on WhatsApp

Updated on October 24, 2026

Sending a Pin link on WhatsApp works, but the chat only shows a still preview, and the other person has to open Pinterest to see the animation. To get the GIF playing inside the chat, send the file. It takes two steps: download the GIF and attach it on WhatsApp.

Step by step

  1. Copy the animated Pin’s link. In Pinterest, open the GIF, tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Download the GIF. Open pegapic.com.br in your browser, tap Paste and, in the Your files list, tap Download GIF.
  3. Get the GIF into your gallery. On Android, it already shows up in the Download album. On iPhone, move the GIF from the Files app to Photos, as shown in the section below.
  4. Open the chat on WhatsApp. Tap the attach button, the paperclip or the +, depending on your phone.
  5. Pick the GIF and send it. Go to your photos and videos, tap the GIF and send it.

The file the site gives you is the .gif Pinterest stores, with every frame. Download details are on the Pinterest GIF downloader page.

On iPhone

Safari saves the GIF to the Files app, in the Downloads folder. WhatsApp’s photo picker reads the Photos app, so move the GIF there first:

  1. Open the Files app and tap Downloads.
  2. Tap the GIF. It animates on screen.
  3. Tap Share and choose Save Image.

In Photos, the GIF also shows up in the Animated album, under Media Types. In the WhatsApp chat, tap +, choose the photos and videos option and select the GIF.

Another way: in the Files app, tap the GIF, then Share, and pick WhatsApp from the row of apps. Depending on the version, it arrives as an animated image or as a file.

On Android

Chrome saves the GIF to the Download folder, and your gallery shows that folder as an album. In the WhatsApp chat, tap the paperclip, choose Gallery and look for the Download folder. Some galleries show the GIF still in the grid; it animates when you open it and when it arrives in the chat.

If you installed the site as an app, you can start from Pinterest: tap Share on the Pin and pick PegaPic. The link arrives in the field, ready to go. The Android guide shows how to install it.

On a computer

In WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp desktop app, open the chat, click the attach button and choose the photos and videos option. Find the GIF in your Downloads folder. Usually you can also drag the file into the chat. The steps for downloading on a computer are in how to download Pinterest videos on PC.

As a photo or as a document

WhatsApp lets you send the same file two ways:

How you send itHow it arrives
From photos and videosAnimates in the chat. WhatsApp usually converts the GIF to its own format
As a documentThe original .gif file, with the same name, but it shows up as a file to open

For a chat, send it from photos and videos. If the other person needs the original .gif, to use on a website or in a presentation, send it as a document.

The GIF arrived frozen

  • The Pin was a still image. If the list showed Download image and not Download GIF, the Pin isn’t animated.
  • The animated Pin has sound. Then it’s a video. The list shows Download video, as MP4, and you send it as a video. See the Pinterest video downloader.
  • The gallery shows the first frame. That’s just the thumbnail. Tap the GIF to see the animation.
  • It went as a document. Documents show up as files, without animating in the chat. Send it again from photos and videos.

Common problems

  • The GIF isn’t in WhatsApp’s gallery. On iPhone, it’s still only in the Files app: do Save Image. On Android, close and reopen WhatsApp so the gallery refreshes.
  • The screen says the link doesn’t point to a Pin. You copied a board or a profile. Open the GIF and copy its link.
  • “The links have expired.” Links last about 15 minutes. Tap Get new links.
  • WhatsApp refused the file. Very large GIFs may go over what WhatsApp accepts as a photo. Send it as a document.

Respect whoever made the GIF

Sending a GIF in a chat between friends is personal use. To use it in a post, on a website or in a brand’s materials, ask the creator for permission and give credit. GIFs made from movie and TV clips also involve other people’s rights. The guide can I use Pinterest images? explains the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send it straight from Pinterest to WhatsApp?

Pinterest’s Share menu has WhatsApp among its apps, but what usually goes is the Pin link, with a preview. For the animation to show in the chat, download the GIF and send the file.

Does the GIF lose quality on WhatsApp?

From photos and videos, WhatsApp may compress or convert the file. As a document, it goes unchanged.

Does it work on Telegram and email?

Yes. Telegram and most email apps accept the .gif as an attachment.

Does the GIF have sound?

No. GIFs don’t have audio. If the animated Pin has sound, it’s a video, and the list gives you the MP4.
