Pinterest image downloader

Paste the link to a public Pin and save the photo, illustration or infographic at the largest size Pinterest keeps.

Free, no sign-up, and no copy kept on our server.

How to download a Pinterest image in 3 steps

  1. Copy the Pin link

    In Pinterest, open the image Pin, tap Share, then Copy link.

  2. Tap Paste

    The search starts on its own. Or paste the link in the field and tap Download.

  3. Save the image

    Tap Download image. Its size shows under the button.

It works for photos, recipe cards, sewing patterns, prints, decor ideas and infographics. For video Pins, use the Pinterest video downloader. If you can’t find the share button, see how to copy a Pin link.

Pinterest has its own option: open the Pin, tap the three dots and choose Download image. When it’s there and you’re already in the app, it’s the most direct way.

With a link, it works differently:

  • no Pinterest account or app needed;
  • it works with a link someone sent you, without opening the Pin first;
  • you see the image’s width and height before downloading;
  • it works the same way on a phone and on a computer.

Image size and format

Pinterest keeps each image in several sizes. The feed uses smaller versions that load fast, and the largest is usually the file the creator uploaded. PegaPic compares the versions and offers the one with the largest area, with no extra compression.

Under the button you see the size and format, for example 673 × 1200 · JPG. A useful reference: to print a 4 × 6 inch photo sharply, the image needs about 1200 × 1800 pixels. To view it full screen on a phone, much less is enough.

There’s no way to add quality later. Enlarging an image doesn’t bring back detail: it just makes the file bigger and blurrier. If you need a high-resolution image, to print or use in a project, look for the original on the creator’s site.

Still, downloading usually beats a screenshot. A screenshot has your screen’s resolution, depends on zoom and often catches bits of the app, like buttons and the start of the description.

Where the file goes

Each device saves it in a different place. On iPhone, the file goes to the Files app, not to Photos.

Animated images

If the Pin is a GIF, the list shows Download GIF, with the original .gif file, which stays animated. More on the Pinterest GIF downloader page.

Where the image is saved

On iPhone, images downloaded in Safari go to the Files app, in the Downloads folder, not straight to Photos. Open the image there, tap Share and choose Save Image.

On Android, Chrome saves to the Download folder, and the image shows up in your gallery, in an album with that name. The file name starts with pinterest- and the Pin number, which makes it easy to find.

For a screen-by-screen walkthrough, see the iPhone and Android guides.

When the image won’t download

  • Deleted Pin, secret board or private account. The screen says the Pin wasn’t found. Only public Pins work.
  • Board or profile link. The address leads to many Pins, not one. Open the Pin before copying.
  • The list shows a video. The Pin is a video Pin, and the tool gives you the video, not an image of the cover.
  • Expired links. Links last about 15 minutes. Tap Get new links and download again.

Using the images

Every image on Pinterest was made by someone. Downloading one as a reference, for a mood board or a personal project is different from publishing it. To use it on your site, in a post or on a product, find the creator, ask for permission and give credit. The list shows the profile Pinterest names as the Pin’s author, but many images come from other sites: the Pin’s source link usually leads to them.

Anyone with rights over an image, or who appears in it, can ask us to block the Pin or the whole profile on the removal page. We reply within 2 business days.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Pinterest's own Download image?

A Pin’s three-dot menu may have a Download image option, inside the Pinterest app or website. Here, all you need is the link: no account, no app, and the width and height show before you download.

Do I get the original size?

You get the largest version Pinterest keeps for that Pin, which is usually the file the person uploaded. The size shows under the button.

What file format will I get?

The format Pinterest stores, with no conversion. It’s almost always JPG; illustrations and screenshots may come as PNG. The format shows under the button before you download.

Why is the image small or blurry?

Pinterest keeps the image at the size it was uploaded. If the original is small, the largest version is too. We don’t upscale: enlarging would make the file bigger, not sharper.

What if the Pin has several images?

You get the first image in the Pin. For the others, open the Pin on Pinterest or on the site it came from.

Do I need a Pinterest account?

No. The tool only reads the Pin’s public page. Secret boards and private accounts are out.

On iPhone, does the image go to Photos?

Not directly. Safari saves it in the Files app, in Downloads. Open the image there, tap Share and choose Save Image to add it to Photos.

And on Android?

Chrome saves it in the Download folder, and the image shows up in your gallery, in an album with that name.

Can I use the image on my site or in a post?

Only with the creator’s permission. Many Pinterest images come from other sites, and the person who saved the Pin isn’t always the author. Rights holders can ask for a block on the removal page.
