JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or HEIC. Up to 20 MB each and 20 at a time.
Your images never leave your device: everything happens in the browser, nothing is uploaded.
How to convert WebP to JPG in 3 steps
Choose your WebP files
Tap Choose images and select one or many .webp files. On a computer, you can also drag them in.
Wait for the conversion
It takes less than a second per image, right in your browser. JPG is already selected.
Download the JPG
Tap Download image. With several, Download all gives you a .zip.
The file name stays the same and only the extension changes: photo.webp becomes photo.jpg. For other formats, such as HEIC, GIF and PNG, use the image to JPG converter.
Why so many images come as WebP
WebP was created by Google to make images on the web lighter. A photo in WebP usually takes much less space than the same photo in JPG, with similar quality. That’s why shops, blogs and social networks started serving images in this format, and the browser’s “Save image as” downloads them as .webp.
Browsers open WebP with no trouble. The problem shows up outside them: older editing programs, some document upload sites, printing apps and forms that only take JPG and PNG. Converting solves it.
JPG or PNG?
| If the image is | Best format |
|---|---|
| A photo | JPG: lighter file, accepted everywhere |
| A screenshot, logo, text or flat-color drawing | PNG: sharp letters, no loss |
| On a transparent background | PNG: JPG paints the background white |
Privacy
The conversion runs in your browser, using your device’s memory. The image isn’t uploaded to our server, and nothing is kept. The new JPG comes out without the photo’s hidden data (EXIF), such as location and camera model.
Limits
Up to 20 images at a time, up to 20 MB each. Very large images are scaled down to fit the device’s memory, and the screen tells you.
After converting
If the JPG is still heavy, compress the image by choosing the quality. To post on Instagram or Stories, resize it to 1080 px. If the image came from a Pin, the Pinterest image downloader gives you the file at the largest size stored.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the image I saved come as WebP?
Many websites serve images as WebP because the file is lighter and the page loads faster. When you save the image from the browser, you get the file the way the site served it: as .webp.
Is WebP bad?
No. It’s light and looks good. The issue is compatibility: some editing programs, websites and upload forms still don’t accept .webp. JPG opens everywhere.
Does the image lose quality?
Almost none. The JPG is saved at 92% quality, where the difference can’t be seen with the naked eye. If you need zero loss, choose PNG instead of JPG.
What if the WebP has a transparent background?
JPG has no transparency, so the background turns white. To keep it transparent, choose PNG.
What about animated WebP?
The conversion uses the first frame. A JPG is always a still image.
How many images can I convert at once?
Up to 20, up to 20 MB each. With more than one, Download all gives you a .zip with all of them.
Is the image uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser. The file never leaves your device and isn’t kept.
Can I do the opposite, JPG to WebP?
Yes. In the image converter, choose WebP as the output format. Safari can’t save WebP; use Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
How do I open WebP on a computer without converting?
Browsers open it: drag the file into a Chrome, Edge or Firefox tab. On Windows, the Photos app opens it too. To edit, attach or print, JPG usually causes less trouble.
