JPG to PNG converter
Choose your .jpg files and download them as PNG, the lossless format that editors, print shops and forms accept.
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or HEIC. Up to 20 MB each and 20 at a time.
Your images never leave your device: everything happens in the browser, nothing is uploaded.
How to convert JPG to PNG in 3 steps
Choose your JPG files
Tap Choose images and select one or many .jpg or .jpeg photos. On a computer, you can also drag them in.
Wait for the conversion
It takes less than a second per image, right in your browser. PNG is already selected.
Download the PNG
Tap Download image. With several, Download all gives you a .zip.
The name stays the same and only the extension changes: photo.jpg becomes photo.png. For other formats, such as HEIC, GIF and WebP, use the image converter.
JPG or PNG: what’s the difference
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy: drops details the eye barely sees | Lossless: keeps every pixel |
| File size | Small | Large, for photos |
| Transparency | None | Yes |
| Best for | Photos to send and post | Screenshots, logos, text and artwork to edit |
Turning a JPG into a PNG doesn’t recover what the JPG already dropped. What changes is from now on: the PNG can be opened, edited and saved many times without losing anything else, while a JPG loses a little every time it’s saved again.
When to convert JPG to PNG
- Editing in stages: if the image will go through several edits and saves, PNG holds the quality to the end.
- Sites and forms that ask for PNG: some sign-ups, app stores and course platforms only accept PNG.
- Layouts with text: when you combine the photo with letters and shapes in an editor, saving as PNG keeps the letters sharp.
- Files for a print shop: when they ask for PNG, the conversion gives them the image with no new loss.
What about a transparent background?
JPG doesn’t store transparency, so the converted PNG keeps the photo’s background. If the image had a transparent background and became a JPG along the way, that background was already painted (usually white) and doesn’t come back. To keep the transparency of a .webp file, use the WebP to PNG page.
Your image never leaves your device
The conversion runs in your browser, using your device’s memory. The image isn’t uploaded to our server, and nothing is kept. The new PNG comes out without the photo’s hidden data (EXIF), such as location and camera model.
Limits
Up to 20 images at a time, up to 20 MB each. Very large images are scaled down to fit the device’s memory, and the screen tells you. The PNG of a big photo can get heavy: to send it in a message, JPG is the better choice.
After converting
If the file is too heavy for a site, resize the image to fewer pixels or compress it (it becomes a lighter JPG or WebP). To go back, use the PNG to JPG page.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG make the photo better quality?
No. PNG saves without loss from now on, but it can’t bring back what the JPG already threw away. The photo looks the same, in a bigger file. The benefit comes later: you can edit and save the PNG many times without losing anything else.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
Because PNG doesn’t use lossy compression. A photo as PNG usually takes several times the space of the same JPG. To send or post, JPG is still better; PNG is for editing, printing and uploading where only PNG is accepted.
Does converting to PNG remove the background?
No. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the photo’s background. Removing the background is a different kind of tool, which this page doesn’t do.
When is PNG worth it?
For screenshots, logos, images with text, artwork that will still be edited, and sites or forms that ask for PNG. For an everyday photo you’ll just send, JPG is lighter.
How many images can I convert at once?
Up to 20, up to 20 MB each. With more than one, Download all gives you a .zip with all of them.
Is the image uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser. The file never leaves your device and isn’t kept.
Does the file name change?
Only the extension: photo.jpg becomes photo.png. If two images have the same name, the second one gets a -2 at the end.
Can I do the opposite, PNG to JPG?
Yes. The PNG to JPG page goes the other way and makes the file much lighter, with any transparent background painted white.
Does the converted photo keep the location?
No. The new PNG comes out without the photo’s hidden data (EXIF), such as where it was taken and the phone model. The right rotation is applied first.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in the phone’s browser, with no app to install. On iPhone, the downloaded file goes to the Files app, in Downloads.
