Instagram no crop: post the whole photo

Choose a photo and download it at feed size, with the whole photo showing and a background in the leftover space.

Format

One JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo, up to 20 MB.

Your images never leave your device: everything happens in the browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to post the whole photo on Instagram in 3 steps

  1. Choose the format and the photo

Portrait (1080 × 1350) is already selected; for square, tap Square. Then tap Choose photo.

  2. Pick the background

Blurred, white or black, for the space around the photo. To crop instead, tap Fill the frame and drag.

  3. Download and post

Tap Download photo and publish it through Instagram, keeping the photo in its original format, with no zoom.

Changed the format after choosing the photo? The screen redraws the frame right away, with no need to choose again.

Why Instagram crops your photo

The Instagram feed takes photos from square up to 4:5 portrait (tall) and up to 1.91:1 (wide). Anything beyond that is cropped. A tall phone photo, at 3:4, is a bit taller than the limit, and a screenshot or a 9:16 photo is much taller: Instagram crops the top and bottom, and sometimes the head or the text is exactly what goes.

With the whole photo inside 4:5 (or the square), there’s a little space left on the sides, which gets a background. So nothing is left out.

Instagram feed sizes

FormatRatioSize this tool makes
Portrait4:51080 × 1350 pixels
Square1:11080 × 1080 pixels

A wide photo (up to 1.91:1) goes in uncropped and doesn’t need this tool, unless you want it to take up more space in the feed.

On your profile grid, Instagram now shows tall thumbnails, narrower than portrait: the thumbnail’s sides are slightly cropped, but the post is still whole in the feed and when someone opens it.

Blurred, white or black background

  • Blurred: the photo itself, softened, fills the sides. It’s the most common look in the feed and suits anything.
  • White: clean, good for shop, recipe and product profiles.
  • Black: makes dark, concert and night photos stand out.

Sizes can change

Instagram changes its formats from time to time. The sizes on this page are the ones from October 2026. If the app starts accepting another format in the feed, check how the photo looks after posting. PegaPic isn’t affiliated with Instagram or Meta.

Your photo never leaves your device

The photo is opened, adjusted and saved in your browser, using your phone’s or computer’s memory. It isn’t uploaded to any server, and nothing is kept. The file comes out without the photo’s hidden data (EXIF), such as location.

One photo at a time, up to 20 MB, as JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC (HEIC only where the browser opens it).

Frequently asked questions

How do I post a whole photo on Instagram without cropping?

Put the photo in a feed format before posting: choose Portrait or Square, keep Whole photo, pick the background and download. When you publish, keep the photo in its original format, with no zoom in the app’s crop.

What’s the right photo size for the Instagram feed?

The feed uses a width of 1080 pixels. Portrait is 1080 × 1350 (a 4:5 ratio) and square is 1080 × 1080. Those are the two sizes this tool makes.

Why does Instagram crop my tall photo?

Because the feed takes tall photos up to a 4:5 ratio. A phone photo (3:4) is a bit taller than that, and a screenshot or 9:16 photo is much taller: Instagram crops whatever goes past it. With the whole photo inside 4:5, there’s nothing to crop.

Portrait or square: which one?

Portrait takes up more of the screen for people scrolling the feed and suits tall photos. Square suits wide photos (less leftover background) and people who want the whole profile in one format.

What about wide photos?

Wide photos up to a 1.91:1 ratio go into the feed uncropped, but they look small. To give one more room, put it in portrait or square with a background: the photo sits in the middle, with background above and below.

Which background should I pick?

Blurred uses the photo’s own colors and looks natural. White suits shop and product profiles; black, concert, night and film photos.

Does the photo lose quality?

It comes out as a high-quality JPG, already at the width Instagram uses (1080 pixels), so the app doesn’t need to scale it down. It still compresses on upload, as it does with every photo.

Does it work for carousels?

Yes. In a carousel, every photo takes the format of the first one, and the others are cropped to fit. Prepare them all in the same format (all portrait or all square) before posting.

What about Stories?

This page is for the feed. For Stories, at 1080 × 1920, use the image resizer.

Is the photo uploaded to a server?

No. The photo is opened, adjusted and saved in your browser, and it never leaves your device. The tool doesn’t access your account: you post through Instagram.
